Pregnancy and childbirth are natural processes and we are here to support you in this journey which usually takes more than 9 months. Only 5 out of 100 pregnant women give birth on the Estimated Delivery Date, underscoring the variability of this remarkable journey. Medicine is still learning the intricate nuances of the wonders of pregnancy and childbirth.

Starting the journey with pre-pregnancy counselling is a good idea. Optimising one’s health with the support of your trusted medical practitioner is highly recommended. Taking folic acid is one such example. In some instances (e.g. cystic fibrosis sufferers), bloods tests called Genetic Career Screening might be suggested. Seeing your doctor when your urine pregnancy test is positive will be your first step in this journey. By then, you would be 5-6 weeks pregnant. Congratulations!

Pregnancy is generally divided into 12-weekly terms called trimesters. You may commence specialist obstetrics care from the moment you know you are pregnant based on your pregnancy test. Getting a GP referral will enable Medicare rebates if eligible. At Perth Gynae & Maternity Centre we tailor your pregnancy care primarily according to your needs and also according to the Australian Guidelines.

Your specialist clinic visit for pregnancy care at Perth Gynae & Maternity Centre will be scheduled as follows:

  • First visit: 5-12 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 16 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 20 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 24 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 28 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 32 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 34 weeks
  • Antenatal visit: 36 weeks and every week thereafter until delivery

With the advancement of medical technology, there are many routine tests that are offered in pregnancy which will be recommended by us. This includes blood tests, urine tests, ultrasounds, swabs, cardiotocography (CTG) and others. They are usually performed at specific weeks. Click here  to find out more.
